What to Pack for a Gulf Coast Resort Weekend
A practical packing list built around our pool deck, spa, and dining rooms, by season.
Packing for a resort weekend is a little different from packing for a standard hotel stay, since there's usually more than one type of activity to plan around. Here's what actually gets used, broken down by where you'll spend your time.
For the Pool Deck
- Two swimsuits, so one can dry while the other's in use
- A cover-up or light shirt for walking between the pool and dining rooms
- Reef-safe sunscreen — the gift shop stocks it, but bringing your own is cheaper
- A wide-brim hat if you're prone to sunburn; the cabanas offer shade but the pool itself doesn't
For the Dining Rooms
Sundeck Bites and Sunrise Grand Buffet are casual — pool attire with a cover-up is fine. The Tidewater is smart casual, and Harbor & Barrel leans slightly dressier in the evening, so packing one collared shirt or a dress beyond your daytime wear is worth it if you're planning a steakhouse dinner.
For the Spa
Almost nothing is required — robes, slippers, and locker service are included with any treatment. A hair tie and a reusable water bottle are the two small things guests most often say they wish they'd brought.
For the Gaming Floor
There's no formal dress code, but the floor runs cool with air conditioning, so a light layer is useful if you're planning a longer session at the tables, especially late at night.
The gaming floor is kept noticeably cooler than the rest of the resort — if you run cold, bring a layer even in summer.
Seasonal Additions
Spring and fall: a light jacket for evenings, since temperatures can drop more than guests expect after sunset. Summer: nothing extra beyond sun protection, though afternoon storms are common, so a compact umbrella is worth the suitcase space. Winter: a warmer jacket for outdoor walks, since the outdoor pool deck is closed and evenings can be genuinely chilly by coastal standards.
What You Don't Need
Beach chairs, towels, and pool floats are all provided or available to rent on property, so there's rarely a reason to pack your own beyond personal preference.
